| The demand for Real Estate Appraisers is accelerating due to several factors.
First of all, the recent turmoil in the mortgage markets has resulted in the requirement for two independent appraisals on each foreclosed property instead of just one. This factor alone doubles the demand for appraisals, and for competent appraisers to write them. |
Secondly, new standards and educational requirements instated in 2008 by California's Office of Real Estate Appraisers (OREA) have added to the burden of established appraisers. This, along with the fact that the average age of U.S. appraisers is nearly 62, many are exiting or retiring from the profession.
According to the Department of Labor/Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment for Real Estate Appraisers is projected to increase faster than the average for all occupations over the next decade.
